HOW WE HELPED CONNECT AUSSIE TECH-DRIVEN NONPROFITS WITH MILLIONS IN GRANT FUNDING.
Since 2014, the Google.org Impact Challenge has awarded millions of dollars in grants to nonprofits and social enterprises using technology to generate change, locally and globally.
In 2018, Google wanted to localise the story of the Impact Challenge and motivate more Australians to vote in the People’s Choice award than ever before.
Departing from a traditional testimonial video, we instead created a lyrical film that captured the pioneering spirit of Australia. By celebrating our proud history of innovation and bravery, the film encouraged our audience to support the next generation of change-makers by voting for their favourite finalists.
Our film is a collision of proud legacy and modern edge, written to honour the spirit of Australians past and celebrate the innovation that spurs our country forward. We took reference from the style of Australian bush poets like Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson and fused it with the contemporary style of slam poetry.
Performed by Dr Jordan Nguyen, biomedical engineer and inventor, the film demonstrated the impact of innovation on our society, and why we should all lend our support.
The campaign rolled out across online video, TrueView, display and print. We also created a toolkit of assets that the Google.org Impact Challenge finalists could use to promote themselves and encourage votes, and a suite of internal comms for Google.
